ABOUT

My name is Rachael Cox, I'm from Birmingham UK and I come from a background in music and arts. I have worked in different areas of the arts for many years including: Performance, Community Arts, Artist Development and now Programme Management and Event Co-ordination with Celebrating Sanctuary Birmingham, who work with refugee and migrant artists and communities.

In my 20's I worked in a feminist bookshop in London and developed an interest for writing. Over the years I have written short stories, reviews and web content, but Dreamscape is my first novel. It has taken me about 15 years to write, being my first project of this size, and writing around work and family.

I have always had a love of sci-fi / fantasy myself, in books, films, tv etc, since I was a little girl growing up on Startrek, so it was inevitable that my work would follow this passion. The reason I love sci-fi is that it gives you a broad canvass for storytelling and the opportunity to reflect and create parallels with current social issues. I love stories, and I love the unusual things in life. I find it fascinating to learn about people with exceptional abilities, or the unexplained connection between twins, or even our own connection to the moon, which controls our tides, calendar and women's reproductive cycles. Also the art of dreaming and its relevance in many ancient cultures around the world. These are all themes that influence my writing and are reflected in my novel Dreamscape.
